Reduce/eliminate pressure on area that is experiencing abnormal wear and tear.  This is done through joint mobilization, exercise, co-contraction around a joint, and muscle balancing.  Then, once healthy fluid enters joint, exercise cautiously to build strength and endurance, then power.  Never increase pain level more then 3 out of 10 while exercising and pay attention to how you feel for 1-3 days to follow before committing to increasing intensity, duration, or frequency.
